Appointment: Matthias R. Fengler Prof. Dr. Matthias Fengler has been Full Professor of Econometrics with particular focus on Financial Market Econometrics at the School of Economics and Political Science (SEPS) since 1 February 2016. His position was filled by way of the tenure-track process. 1 February 2016. Matthias R. Fengler was born in Heidelberg on 28 October 1973. He is a German national. He studied economics at the Universities of Tübingen and Mannheim and concluded his studies with a diploma in economics at the University of Mannheim. From 1998 to 1999, he spent an academic year in Berkeley, and in 2001, he conducted research at the Centre de Recherche en Économie et Statistique in Paris. In 2002, he obtained a Master’s degree from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he was subsequently awarded a Doctor’s degree for his thesis on Semiparametric Modelling of Implied Volatility. Between 2004 and 2009, he worked as a Quantitative Analyst at the private bank Sal. Oppenheim, where he last occupied the position of a Senior Vice President. In 2010, he accepted an assistant professorship (tenure track) from the University of St.Gallen. Research focus: econometrics Prof. Dr. Matthias Fengler’s research deals with econometric and statistical questions, particularly in the fields of derivatives pricing and risk management, in which he has had some papers published in internationally renowned journals, such as the Journal of Econometrics, the Journal of Financial Econometrics and the Journal of Banking and Finance. The results published there are not only important contributions to academic research but have considerable significance for financial market practice. Strong international network Prof. Dr. Matthias R. Fengler is part of a very good international network. He acts as a peer reviewer for numerous journals and is a member of the reputable associations, Society for Financial Econometrics and Econometric Society. His work is appreciated in the academic discourse, has registered an above-average number of quotations in international journals even at this early stage and is highly regarded at an international level. Most recently, Prof. Dr. Matthias R. Fengler conducted research at the St.Gallen Institute of Management in Asia in Singapore. Teaching experience on all levels Professor Fengler is already strongly involved in teaching in the SEPS. He teaches courses at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. Levels, for instance in Financial Econometrics and Asset Pricing. Prof. Dr. Matthias R. Fengler has also taught courses in his field at other universities.
